The Rotterdam Student Orchestra is conducted by Coen Huisman since February 2013.
Coen Huisman started playing piano and a variety of brass instruments at a young age. He eventually chose the combination of horn and piano. As a horn player, during his mathematics study at Leiden University, he played in numerous student orchestras and became interested in the field of conducting. He attended many (summer) courses, among which the Kurt Thomas Course and the English Sherborne Summer School of Music. In 2010 he started studying orchestral conducting with Hans Leenders at Codarts, the Rotterdam Conservatoire.
At the end of 2014 he finished his main subject with an impressive performance of Stravinsky’s Pétrouchka. Since February 2013, he is conductor of the Rotterdam Student Orchestra. He also conducts the Petrus Choir in Leiden and is regularly asked as for rehearsals at different orchestras.
